This situation prompted a brief stoppage of flight activities.

Crowds also flooded nearby roads and attempted to breach parliament, where the government had originally scheduled the public viewing.

Political Heritage and Community Devotion

Though mainly known as an government critic, Odinga assumed the role of senior minister in 2008 and also established a political pact with the president last year in a career marked by shifting alliances.

He inspired passionate devotion among followers, particularly in his Luo community based in the nation's western region, many of whom maintain he was prevented from obtaining the highest office by electoral fraud.

Many of Odinga's followers, who were unborn in 1991 when Kenya became a multi-party democracy, expressed respect to Odinga's work as an activist.
